Appleby Westward are renowned for not just being a distribution centre, but also offering a range of office based services to assist retailers with queries they may have. One of the main departments that retailers will deal with is Customer Support who are here to offer assistance on a variety of subjects.
The department is run by Nicola Riddle who works with her team of 5 staff; Claire, Sara, Kris, Ruth & Sarah.
Retailers Chris and Sue Sharrinton run a highly successful SPAR store in Helston, Cornwall, and started a six day chilled delivery programme two years ago to examine its effectiveness and to assess its advantages.
“To be honest, it is hard to see any disadvantages”, said Chris.
SPAR retailers in the UK are serviced by six regional distribution centres (RDC's) which are owned by independent wholesalers operating within a defined territory known as a 'Guild'.
Every SPAR retailer is associated with one of the wholesalers and automatically becomes a member of his or her local 'Guild' (which has its own unique name) and in turn a member of the 'National Guild of SPAR'. This guild system ensures every SPAR retail member is represented within the organisation and given the opportunity to make representations at a local and national level on SPAR's marketing program, support services, and matters affecting SPAR retailers.
In order that SPAR retail members' views may be co-ordinated and presented to the National Guild of SPAR, the Wessex Guild has its own committee of elected SPAR retailers and is chaired by Appleby Westward's Sales & Marketing Director, Nick Kenworthy.
