SPAR retailers in the UK are serviced by six regional distribution centres (RDC's) which are owned by independent wholesalers operating within a defined territory known as a 'Guild'.
Every SPAR retailer is associated with one of the wholesalers and automatically becomes a member of his or her local 'Guild' (which has its own unique name) and in turn a member of the 'National Guild of SPAR'. This guild system ensures every SPAR retail member is represented within the organisation and given the opportunity to make representations at a local and national level on SPAR's marketing program, support services, and matters affecting SPAR retailers.
In order that SPAR retail members' views may be co-ordinated and presented to the National Guild of SPAR, the Wessex Guild has its own committee of elected SPAR retailers and is chaired by Appleby Westward's Sales & Marketing Director - Nick Kenworthy.
Wessex Guild Committee meetings are held six times per year and are mainly held in Saltash. Committee members are elected by a postal ballot of the total retailer membership of the particular Wessex Guild area. The map below shows where the current members are based. One retailer is elected 'Vice Chairman' for a period of office determined by the National Guild of SPAR.
Any SPAR retailer wishing to raise an issue for discussion at a Guild Committee or wanting to attend as an observer may do so by contacting any of the committee members shown or the Guild Chairman.
The National Guild of SPAR is a limited company and meets four times per year to consider SPAR issues and contribute to the debate over the formation of the marketing program. Mark Gillett and Chris Sharrinton are the local representatives on this board and make known the views of the Wessex Guild Committee. Day-to-day issues may be dealt with by contacting the Customer Support Centre at Appleby Westward.
Contact information is available in the Members section.
