Appleby Westward, the regional distribution company for SPAR stores in the south west, is launching a new range of products this month (March) branded SPAR West Country.
Grouped under a distinctive branded logo, the launch is being spearheaded with the introduction of SPAR West Country milk to participating stores from 8 March.
“The development of SPAR West Country as a brand reinforces our commitment to using local suppliers to provide customers with the best products that our region has to offer,” said John Pattison, Appleby Westward’s Managing Director.
“The West Country is famed for the quality of its local produce and SPAR customers hold local products in high regard. We are in a unique position to be able to develop a strong local brand that other multiple and symbol groups will find hard to replicate, and in doing so we are supporting the local economy, helping to protect the environment and providing quality products that customers will know and can trust.”
Appleby Westward first trialled SPAR West Country as a brand when it introduced its own-brand eggs last year. It has since developed the logo to make it more eye-catching and sourced additional products to help develop the brand, and aims to increase the visibility and range of local produce as it becomes available throughout the year.
Among the products earmarked for launch under the logo in the next few weeks are saffron cake and buns, fresh meat, ale, cider and fresh produce such as cauliflower, cabbage and swede. With further developments anticipated in sandwiches, cheese, honey, clotted cream and butter as well as seasonal soft fruit as the summer approaches.
“We have the strength of a nationally recognised brand coupled with regional buying and knowledge,” said John. “SPAR West Country will give our regional products their own identity that is unique to us.”
